Ever since the invention of the PostScript language and page-layout programs such as Pagemaker and QuarkExpress, back in the mid 1980s, there was no longer a need for professional typographers, since most people could create their own type on their personal computer. However, due to this process, the art of typography has been lost. No longer do people worry about such things as widows (one word by itself on the last line of a paragraph, or "dumb quotes,"  (using straight prime marks instead of real quotation marks).
